The November entry in my 2003 Smutpic series, Daisy.
I can practically hear the "....Who?!"s from here.
Daisy's a character from a little show called Dragon Quest: Abel Yuusha. Loosely based on the locales and events in the classic NES RPG Dragon Quest III (aka Dragon Warrior III in the US), the anime was headed up by Akira Toriyama, who went on to produce a slightly less well-known show called Dragon Ball Z (end sarcasm). Abel Yuusha ran for 32 or so episodes in the late '80s; in 1990, Saban obtained the US rights and translated the first 13 episodes for broadcast as "Dragon Warrior." Sadly, the US run never went any further than that; partially due to the absurd time slots given to the show (between 6:30 and 7:30 on Saturday mornings, in my area), and partially due to the fact that Toriyama wasn't exactly thrilled at the fact that Saban had completely cut his name out of the credits for the show, the show ended just as the heroes were about to start their quest in earnest.
BUT ABOUT THE GIRL: This is Daisy. She's what you'd call a Fighter in NES RPG terms- she has a sword and she's good at using it. In the show, she starts out as a wandering bounty hunter/mercenary for hire. She gets involved with our heroes' quest after coming to the correct conclusion that, wherever the lead character Abel went, he was sure to run into monsters- and these monsters all leave precious gems behind when they've been defeated. So yeah, she's in it for the money, but that's just part of her charm.
Her ulterior motive for travelling and earning money is to find her brothers, who were taken from her after their parents died by what I assume was a primitive form of social services. She's the best fighter in the group, and teaches Abel how to use the sword he gets in Epsiode 3. She's harsh, headstrong, capable, and morbidly afraid of rats.
But I've gone on too long, here- check out the show if you ever have a chance, even if you HATE DBZ- the longest fight in Dragon Warrior lasts all of HALF an episode.
Oh my god, you remember that show? O_o You even have the details on it... admittingly, I didn't do TOO much in-depth research for it, but I'd looked about and asked about it here and there since the late 90's with no luck. I know these things are never as good as you remember it (especially when you're talking about one's tastes and intellectual limits in 1990 versus 2004), but that gives me a name, for sure. And a slightly memory-warping sexy pinup, to boot. ;D
Love your other art, by the way, I'd already seen a piece or two of it on PeachHentai, but not with the depth of comments you listed here.
Thanks! It's oddly refreshing to find someone who actually knows this character WITHOUT needing the exhaustive backstory. If it weren't for the nth-generation VHS copies of the English dub and the copies I made of some old, heavily-viewed and abridged VHS volumes of the series while I was in Japan, I'd think that I'd made the entire show up in my head.
