Completely putting aside the fact that, as of this submittal, I'm a scant 21,874 views away from the 300K mark, I've had this in the works since I turned over 200K; sorry it's taken so long!
Once again, poor Princesses Peach and Daisy find themselves moments away from imminent doom during their travels. Seems to happen to those guys a LOT, y'know? For more details on how they came to find themselves in such a fix, I've posted an accompanying fanfic up on my own webspace- give it a read whenever you have a free minute. Or hour .
I have learned all SORTS of neat junk from this pic. To tell y'all the truth, I don't really feel like I've PROGRESSED to any great degree since early 2004. Since then, my goal with each pic has been to see how fast I can finish it, from sketch to signature- doesn't allow a lot of time for wild experimentation or trial-and-error. I decided to take my time on this one, and use it as a chance to try out several different things!
First and foremost, I've GOT to work on my backgrounds, so that's where much of the energy on this pic went. Just to give you a frame of reference, I've been working on it for- no lie- the last THREE WEEKENDS SOLID. I only JUST started shading Peach and Daisy last night. The rest of that time was spent getting ridiculously in-depth with creating a mummy Koopa's tomb.
Did a bit if texturing, too! I tried to shade the floors and walls of the tomb in a convincing stone-like fashion, but it just wasn't coming together. So I went out in search of a nice stone texture (and found one at ~requiemstock) and, after a bit of futzing, it brought JUST the right amount of stoniness to the surroundings.
Did the same thing for the linen texture of the mummy wrappings, though that came straight from Google Image Search .
This is the second Danger-Prone Princesses pic I've drawn for a milestone, and just as in the previous one, Peach kind of gets shafted . In that one, she has her head shoved all the way up a Birdo's snout; in this one, we're gettin' just a glimpse of about 2% of her, with the rest all coocoon'd up . Next time I do one of these, I'll make sure to bring her out front and center; just gotta figure out which milestone to do that for. Maybe... 500,000 ?
The floors and walls do look convincing. I love the ghostly effect of Bowser. Seeing the two girls reminds me of the trouble that the scooby gang gets into, although this is so much better.

I think you've progressed since your other Princesses in Peril series...there's much more obvious effort here; you've really outdone yourself paying attention to detail. ^^ Plus, you've shaded hair nicer, drawn the girls more similar to the original Nintendo style, the colors look more suiting and nicer together, and the light source has a better and more real effect.

It's even worse for Peach than THAT! She's wearing a raccoon suit- all it does is let her fly and gives her a tail attack. Statue Power comes with the Tanooki Suit .
Actually spending time on a background made the shading SO much easier. Before, I'd have the character art done before I even started thinking of what to put in the background, and as a result, whatever I put back there just wouldn't mesh with the characters' shading. Doing background FIRST established the light sources and overall atmosphere of the scene, which made it MUCH easier to shade the characters accordingly.
